Match Group Teams Up With One Tree Planted For “Earth Month”
This April for “Earth Month,” Match Group has partnered with One Tree Planted, a nonprofit organization focused on global reforestation, to celebrate love and renewal by sponsoring tree planting events around the globe. The organization has planted more than 40 million trees in over 43 countries to date. Together, One Tree Planted and Match Group will plant trees in honor of success stories of couples matched on Match Group brands. The idea for a partnership with One Tree Planted came from a Match Group employee, who proposed working with the organization as part of his winning entry to the CSR team’s Going Green Contest.
Match Group employees are getting involved in the reforestation efforts this Earth Month by volunteering at tree-planting events in Dallas, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Brussels and New York City, donating to conservation organizations, and planting trees on their own accord. Match Group is supporting Earth Month and employees who participate in several ways:
● Donating to charitable organizations for each hour of employee volunteer time and offering paid time off for volunteering
●Double-matching donations to select conservation organizations such as The Nature Conservancy,Environmental Defense Fund and more
●Attending One Tree Planted’s ForrestFest summit to collaborate with thought leaders and sustainability professionals on how Match Group can further support reforestation efforts
Climate change is increasingly top-of-mind for employees, as well as users of Match Group’s dating and social discovery products. OkCupid found that when it comes to assessing potential matches, climate change is the most important issue to users. The app also brought back its “Climate Change Advocate” profile badge and will donate $1 for everyone who opts into it (up to $20,000) to Earth Day Initiative, a non-profit organization focused on taking action for the planet.
“This Earth Month, we’re able to support more than 100 community planting events with the generous support of partners like Match Group,” says Matt Hill, Founder & Chief Environmental Evangelist at One Tree Planted. “Match Group’s leadership in the sustainability space will make our planet healthier for generations to come.”
Match Group has been carbon neutral since 2021, following the purchase of verified offsets from the Hyundai Green Power Corporation. With this purchase, which is based on projected greenhouse gas emissions, the company committed to offsetting its corporate footprint for each year going forward.
“Sustainability is a core principle for us at Match Group, and it's something we prioritize year-round,” says Joanna Rice, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility & ESG at Match Group. “As a company driven by the positive impacts people can have on one another, preserving the planet for future generations is a critical responsibility. We’ll continue to find new ways we can make even more of these worthwhile changes.”
These Earth Month initiatives are part of Match Group’s efforts to create a more sustainable world. For more on Match Group’s CSR work, check out the company’s Impact Report.
