Match Group’s New 2022 Voter Campaign In Texas

Last year, Texas passed Senate Bill 1 (SB1), making it more difficult for many Texans to vote. This law disproportionately burdens Latinx, Black, and Asian voters, and makes it harder for individuals with language barriers or disabilities to get help casting their ballot. Texas law also requires specific training for deputy registrars to assist with voter registration.

To help remedy these issues, Match Group partnered with the National Urban League, Voto Latino, and Texas Impact; through these partnerships, employees have the opportunity to be deputized as voter registrars, so they can help others in their community register to vote and make a plan for casting their ballot. Participants in the program are able to learn about voting issues and procedures and engage in various nonpartisan get-out-the-vote efforts to mobilize potential voters to the polls. The program kicked off with an event at Match Group’s Dallas HQ earlier this month.

Our goal with this voter campaign is to enable as many people as possible to cast ballots in Texas this November and have their voices be heard during a time when many issues that impact our civil liberties and communities will be decided by who wins in elections, from Congress to City Council.

And now for some words from our partners:

“During this next election cycle, and moving forward, we call on our elected officials - whose job is to engage with the community, listen to our requests, and work to pass laws that benefit us - to pass common sense laws that provide voter protections and voting rights laws,” said Judson Robinson III, Houston Area Urban League President and CEO. “We have been through this process before - of calls for change, and have often only received lip service, with no real action. Elections matter, and we will fight this fight while pledging to educate future generations of their responsibility to protect our progress. This Voter Engagement partnership with Match Group is essential to our success.”

“Voters shouldn’t have to move mountains in order to cast a ballot and have it count,” said María Teresa Kumar, President and CEO of Voto Latino. “But even with the additional challenges put in place by Texas politicians trying to take power away from our communities, we’re dedicated to making sure every single eligible voter has a shot at taking part in our democracy. We’re thrilled to partner with Match Group to help ensure that the next generation of Texas voters has the power to show up on Election Day and demand the responsive, committed leaders it deserves.”

“We're thrilled to be working with Match Group to build civic leadership,” said Bee Moorhead, Executive Director of Texas Impact. “Faith and democracy are both about building relationships that make our communities stronger. Match Group is bringing energy and expertise to civic engagement at a time when it's really needed.”

Even if you don’t live in Texas, we encourage you to check out our nonpartisan partner organizations and the excellent work they do in the community:

The National Urban League - A historic civil rights organization dedicated to economic empowerment, equality, and social justice.

Voto Latino - A grassroots organization focused on educating and empowering a new generation of Latinx voters.

Texas Impact - An advocacy network that mobilizes voters through churches and other faith-based venues.

The program is part of Match Group’s larger commitment to supporting employees who are active in their communities. For more information about Match Group, visit https://mtch.com/news.
